Parka, the Outerwear for Spring

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Alexander Wang khaki-and-silk striped combo parkaI’m admittedly so happy that spring’s here, but it’s still a little bit cold out there, which means floral shirts aren’t really enough for now, we do need some outerwear. See what I’ve got here, the Spring Parka!

It seems only natural that this spring’s utility jacket ever caught hold of its sister jacket, the superversatile parka, the best of which we’ve rated here. I’m all for masculine outerwear, ti’s very sexy on a girl, especially with a touch of fluffy marabou feathers, like the way Scott Sternberg chose to adorn the hood of his Boy by Band of Outsiders parka. That’s the cool thing about these coats. They all share the same blueprint—a relaxed hood, a loose-fitting shape, a length that falls just above the knee. I like a parka’s baggy, roomy feel.

Where they differ is that there are so many stylistic variations, from the boyish ’90s-grunge feel of A.P.C.’s army parka to the minimalist-chic look of the one by Barneys New York. Not to mention the variety of fabrics they come in, from those with a light parachute quality (or, in Christopher Raeburn’s case, actually made from recycled parachutes!) to those that are more weighty, making them the perfect transitional-fix outerwear piece.

Lastly, the parka is forever versatile. I love that you can wear them with anything. Like a simple camel trouser from Zara (or jeans) in spring and something like a floral frock through summertime. It’s versatile enough to wear on the weekend meeting friends for brunch in Brooklyn, traveling upstate, or even for a casual Friday look. There won’t be much else in your closet that can do all that.

This Alexander Wang Parka pictured at right is my favorite for this spring, love the khaki feel, and I have to say the strip print is so nice, hope you like it.

Spring Trend, Trench Rolling Back

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Burberry Prorsum Spring 2010 trenchToday is a good day, the sky’s light blue, and the sun is shining brilliantly. And this really makes me feel that Spring is finally here, feels really happy about this after the cold-gray times that almost made me felt like we were stuck in a never-ending winter! So since now that it’s here, it’s actually time to trade-in our bulky coats for lighter gear, seriously!

I’ve personally been waiting for this time for a long time, and what could be more perfect for warmer weather than trench? And judging from what we saw on the stages, fashion world thinks alike, no doubt trench coat will hit this spring! However, the spring 2010 trench is nothing like your mother’s jacket; it’s been updated and re-worked to make us fall in love all over again with this classic wardrobe staple, like fashion always do.

I’ll start with my favorite, Burberry Prorsum started with the classic trench, and they never cease to amaze us with their ability to remain a dominant force in this market. The draping on this trench (pictured at left) is stunning. It’s so beautiful, that it could be worn as a dress even. I love the proportions, especially the three-quarter length sleeves. When it comes about trench, you know you’ll never go wrong to turn to Burberry!

And others like Celine, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Christian Dior…all have come up with their own trench style, and I’d say, they really did their job very well! If you’re ready to get avant garde, or you already had a lot classic trenches, they’ll truly make awesome offers! So basically it’s safe to say that trench coats will covet this spring.

Chanel, Icey Snow Queen

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Chanel AW10 lookbookChanel, always the classic favorite of every woman, elegant and respectable! Chanel has always been elegant, clear and a little cold, but this time it comes really truly cold, seriously cold. If you’ve seen their AW10 collection, you’ll know what I’m talking about, or if you were at their show, you might be able to feel the cold…

Well,  if you were too busy looking at the glaciers and worrying about Baptiste’s fur boots splashing through blue water to pay attention to the clothes, we’ve scanned in Chanel’s AW10 lookbook to find out what’s really going on there.

White folders sat on each seat, and when every single person opened to this picture of Siri and Baptiste, they’d roar with laughter until the Grand Palais was shaking with it, like fashion’s version of the Wave. But once you get past Baptiste’s arched eyebrows and melodramatic faces, you can actually see the embroidered lace, loose knit leggings and slim tweed suits Karl sent down the runway (or around the glacier). Also, close ups of the shoes, jewelry, bags and scarves, not to mention Siri’s perfect bouffant.

To be honest, we’re still not sure we’d wear any of it, but the ice cube clutch is really pretty great. But as for couture, I think they did a quite nice job, paired with the light fancy hair, the model looks very gorgeous and icey, just like a snow queen. Maybe the show went a little too far, but doesn’t it just makes the fashion world?

Soft Jackets, More Feminine and More Suitable for A Warmer Season

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Soft JacketsJackets we know, and we would love that if we want to play hard. Sometimes when we want to look sophisticated and capable at work we turn to jackets, stylish and a little masculine! But you know, other times they’re still stylish but a little to hard, I mean we’re girls, and we want to be pretty girls! So here comes the solution, Soft Jackets!

They’re a little more feminine, but still got the good look of jackets, and they’ll be perfectly fit for spring, and maybe some summer days too. Soft in color and shape, they’re not anything like the bold-shouldered black blazers we’ve seen of late (even the navy ones can be in washed cotton). And a lighter color is good for the warmer seasons. However the one above from Rochas is not that light, but a bright blue is always adorable, we love these bright colors, they’re not light in color, but they do make us feel light and happy in mood!

OK, back to soft! These have a more casual feeling, as opposed to a stiff boyfriend jacket. It’s one piece you can wear with anything, no matter what else you have on! It’s a perfect polished, tailored piece to wear with a flirty dress.

Soft jackets are really perfect for this Spring and I’m pretty sure we’ll see lots of them out on street! Don’t lost, just go and find you own favorite one for this Spring! You’ll love them.

Nice “Cages”, Todd Lynn

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Todd LynnAdmit it or not, most of us do have a thing for animal skin, don’t get me wrong, we do hate the killing, but meanwhile the seducing from their beautiful skins can always knock our conscious off. So it’s hard, but we have to make a change of that!

The problem of  global warming is now gaining attention in all areas, so fashion would definitely not be an exception as we all know. As Vivienne Westwood has taken action on her Red Label AW10 show, Todd Lynn’s inspiration was twofold. For so many years as man kind lives, the hunter captures and wears his prey, however now the tables are turned: The hunter is captured and caged by his own game.

In short: Nature finds a way(as it always does) to deal with man. It was an admirable and—in its own dark way—reassuring message, but it was somehow obscured by Lynn’s sinfully sumptuous materials. The hunter’s prey was symbolized by fox furs from Saga, which the designer draped, shruglike, over a taupe leather jacket or a felted wool coat. The cages were a little easier to cope with. They were woven leather, exaggeratedly straddling the torso.

As for the clothes: You’ll notice that, this season for Todd the emphasis was on the shoulder. Lynn went for a pagoda silhouette in his more “low-key” pieces, like the wool jacket with linebacker leather inserts, or the gray jersey jacket that also featured built-out leather shoulders. The combination of cloth and skin was a step forward in a softening of Lynn’s usual hyper-tailored aesthetic. Another significant advance with this collection was the overall use of leather, braided into strikingly dramatic outerwear. And I’d say, neat and nice!

Climate change or not, Lynn does continues to cover a narrow waterfront, but he truly has mastered the balance between provocation and desirability. So conscious or not, for once in my life I really do want to get into these “cages”!

Emma Watson for Burberry

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Emma

I’ve always loved Burberry for its elegancy, and for its classic English looking. Wearing Burberry can make you look like a well-educated lady, which is exactly what I wanted to be. Therefore, the face of Burberry doesn’t have to be sexy, but has to be gentle and graceful. As for Emma, she is graceful, and a vivid lady as she’s really young.

For the second time this season, Burberry has enlisted Emma Watson as the face of its campaign. Spring/summer’s images are sleek and polished, taken in a London studio – in contrast to last season’s atmospheric shots taken on location in Westminster. The campaign has been shot by Mario Testino again this season – and creative director Christopher Bailey was also on hand to support the actress during her second turn as a Burberry model.

This is a photo of Emma in a suede Burberry trench. I love the coat very much and the girl in it is Pretty NICE too!
