Get your feet in Classic Graffiti
Friday, February 5th, 2010
Time past, weeks come and go, as this week passing by fashion has got another collaboration, the classic Keith Haring graffiti art comes up with the new Tommy Hilfiger shoes, which appeared very classic and chic.
Tommy Hilfiger and the Keith Haring foundation launched a new line of shoes at Colette yestoday. And as we were told, they’ll be on sale for two weeks at the Parisian concept store, with a broader release set for the autumn of this year. Their lovechild consists of sneakers and Wellington boots covered in Haring’s most famous paintings. And also, there are skinny tennis shoes with the Barking Dog and chunky rain boots with the Dancing Man for men, women, and their trendy children.
This is, obviously, yet another attempt on Hilfiger’s behalf to regain its fashion credit. But what’s the real difference between this and that Mona Lisa underwear available at the Louvre, one may ask? Well, here’s an answer from a non-expert: For one, and the most important one, is the collaborator. Out of many painters that may be suitable for this kind of creation, Haring is probably the best. He has a real sense of fashion, and a real history with fashion, though maybe not the happiest one!
Here it is: The artist and social activist at that time was unsentimental about the value of this art. He was intensely criticized when opening his Pop Shop in Soho in 1986: There, he sold cheap apparel, pins and shoes, all tattooed with his work, which we appreciated very much these days. And now, probably in horner of that, these cheap (ish: wellies and trainers go for about $125) shoes are sold, which could just be a continuation of Haring’s original project. And more apparently, the allusion to the Pop Shop is certainly there, as Colette has reproduced the painter’s Soho walls: bare, supermarket-like shelves graffitied head-to-toe with the Dancing Man.
Once dubbed “Warhol’s factory goes meets the streets,” Haring’s factory is back – just on a glitzier street. And I just can’t wait to get my feet in those classic graffiti, and the good thing is these are the fashion we can actually afford, though not so ‘cheap’ as they’re exclaim, but yes, we can totally afford it!
To be honest, I am not really a fan of these sportswear, but you know sometimes you’ll have to use these on particular occasions, for example, hiking or running. So you’ll need some sportswear, and this is men’s wear for loved one.
